Nitix Email Security Alert

posted Sep 29, 2009 12:37 PM by Cavan Kelly
As we have noted previously, IBM will no longer sell anti-virus and anti-spam license renewals for Nitix based servers.  If you are running Nitix as your email server, it is imperative that you have other anti-malware protection in place prior to the expiration of your existing licenses.  If you are considering a hosted security service, it is critical that you do not continue to use the Nitix based server as a gateway device.  The key to a successful hosted email security deployment is to ensure that your mail server will accept mail only from the hosted service.  In their infinite wisdom, Net Integration Technologies (now IBM) disabled this ability in qmail, the component responsible for delivering email.  We cannot stress this strongly enough, you must either turn off email services or move the Nitix server behind a firewall before your current anti-virus protection expires.  If you have any questions please contact us immediately.
