Disabling Autorun

Disabling autorun will prevent applications from executing simply because you have inserted a CD into your system.  This is a potential security issue and the option should have been off by default.

First, click the Start button, and select Run.  In the resulting dialog box, type "regedit"

Running Regedit

Second, when the regedit program appears, navigate the tree to the left until you find My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom

Finding the Key

Third, right click "Autorun" in the Name column, and select Modify

Selecting Modify

Fourth, in the resulting dialog box, set the value to 0.

Setting the value

Finally, close regedit and reboot your system. Autorun is now disabled!
